The crew of 705 Naval Air Squadron from RAF Shawbury, near Shrewsbury, flew in to thank staff at the Chill Out Spa for looking after their pilots on a recent charity bike ride.

Six Royal Navy and Royal Air Force pilots cycled 1,000 miles from Cornwall’s Royal Naval Air Station in Culdrose to the Faslane naval base in Scotland.

They called at the spa for some restorative pampering in a planned stop on their 10-day gruelling marathon in aid of Royal British Legion.

The team was treated to a deluxe massage and relaxing hot tub before donning fluffy dressing gowns to unwind in a tranquillity room.

Lt Cdr Steve Doubleday, commanding officer of 705 Squadron, said: “The team at Chill Out Spa were fantastic.

“It meant such a lot to us. We had strenuous days cycling across country, and it lifted our spirits to be looked after so well.

“We could face the next day with renewed energy, and we can’t thank them enough.

“We stopped at various health clubs and spas, but Chill Out blew everyone else out of the water.”

We are always delighted when a professional footballer visits Chill Out Spa but there was double the excitement when we realised Joe’s famous partner was to accompany him. The couple really enjoyed their time with us and booked again for the following week. Alas, our excitement may be short lived as Joe has signed a loan deal with French club Lille Joe and Carly Cole

The awards took place on Friday 24th June at Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza Hotel to celebrate women’s role in business and the community.

The Entrepreneur of the Year category received the highest amount of nominees which then had to be whittled down to just two finalists who were subject to background research and checks relevant to their category, by the judging panel.

Sharon said: “I was so thrilled to be nominated, and then announced as a finalist for the awards.

“When they called my name as the winner of Entrepreneur of the Year I was absolutely delighted and so surprised!

“It was an incredible day – the event was full of inspirational women and there was a fantastic atmosphere.

“I’m looking forward to developing Chill Out Spa over the coming months, and have plans to expand our services. Winning Entrepreneur of the Year has been the icing on the cake of a fantastic year.”

Sharon, who hails from Prescot, opened Chill Out Spa in 2008 after nearly two decades in a career in finance. Whilst many would hesitate at starting a new business in the midst of a credit crunch, it didn’t stop Sharon achieving her goals – and then some.

Ellie Kerr, director at Women and Business and co-organiser of the awards, said: “Sharon totally deserves to win category of Entrepreneur.

“She is a wonderful role model to other women and epitomises how to turn your dream into reality, combined with hard work, determination, focus and unwavering belief in her concept.

“It is a pleasure to have Sharon as one of the winners of Merseyside Women of the Year 2011.

“The excellent standards Sharon has set at The Chill Out Spa is worthy of such public recognition and a benchmark for all businesses to aspire to across Merseyside.”

Based in the beautiful grounds of Knowsley Hall, Sharon and the team have excelled in their field. The elegant day spa has already been praised for its excellent client care, and has won fans from across the region – celebrities, sports men and women and a loyal client base of people who enjoy being pampered.

The Merseyside Women of the Year Awards ceremony was attended by over 350 women from the region, and categories ranged from Arts and Culture and Humanitarian to Learning and Entrepreneur.
